Magnum is the photographer-owned cooperative founded in 1947 by Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson and colleagues, still run by its member photographers. Its site is the working front door to one of the most consequential photo archives in existence.

The placard

An interface that understands its one obligation: get out of the pictures’ way. Type stays small and cool, the grid gives every photograph its full width of attention, and stories open into near-borderless sequences where the only rhythm is the images themselves. The restraint is harder than it looks — an archive this deep invites clutter, and the design keeps declining the invitation. Institutional gravity, carried with almost no visible effort.
